Gist will be honored during the 29th Journal Record Woman of the Year gala at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Cox Business Services Convention Center. The event will recognize the “50 Making a Difference” and pay tribute to The Journal Record’s Woman of the Year.

Gist has been director of Putnam City’s Foundation since 2003. During her tenure as director, the Putnam City Foundation has increased annual community support by 480 percent. In 2006 the Putnam City Foundation won an outstanding program award from the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence for its support of a school district program that brings published authors into schools to talk with students. In 2008 the Putnam City Foundation won a second outstanding program award from the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence for its sponsorship of the Challenge Day program, a powerful, high-energy character development program for students in all three Putnam City high schools.

“I’m thrilled to help Putnam City’s great students and outstanding teachers in many ways, but I’m particularly invested in Challenge Day. This is a life-changing program that impacts thousands of students and hundreds of adults each year. It confronts head-on problems like bullying and teasing that can get in the way of student success in school. It is a catalyst for building school communities characterized by tolerance, acceptance and inclusiveness,” Gist says.

Gist, a Certified Fund Raising Executive, is a member and former president of the board of the Northwest Chamber of Commerce. She is a Leadership Oklahoma City alumni association board member, a board member for the Association of Fundraising Professionals and a member of the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence.

“When I look down the list of women who have been selected to be part of ’50 Making a Difference,’ I’m awed. They’re people who bring vision, hope and energy to help our community in so many ways. Honestly, these are role models for all of us, and people I aspire to be like. To be included among them is unbelievable,” Gist says.
