In the January 1, 2010, issue of Oklahoma City's Friday paper, Mick Cornett was named "OKCityan of the Year".
As mayor of Oklahoma City since 2004, Cornett has helped make our city a great place to live and raise a family. He led the way for the campaign of the recently passed MAPS 3 initiative, a $777 million tax incentive package which includes a new downtown convention center, the building of a 70-acre downtown central park, upgrades to State Fair Park, and multiple health-and-wellness aquatics centers for senior citizens. Cornett is also credited with helping to bring two National Basketball Association teams to Oklahoma City. He even appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show in 2007 when he put Oklahoma City on a diet, challenging residents to lose 1 million pounds.
Cornett was the 2009 Putnam City Foundation Wall of Fame recipient, and was honored at the April 21, 2009, annual banquet held at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. We are proud of this 1976 graduate of Putnam City High School and all that he has accomplished, making Oklahoma City "the place to be". Congratulations Mayor Cornett on being named Oklahoma City Friday's "OKCityan of the Year"!
