District Teacher of the Year Narrowed Down to 5 Finalists

Putnam City Teacher of the Year Finalists Named

Five Putnam City teachers have been selected as finalists for the district’s Teacher of the Year. The finalists are:

• Amy Harmon, History teacher, Capps Middle School

• Eric Lyons, Art teacher, Putnam City West High School

• Anne-Marie Oestriecher, English teacher, Western Oaks Middle School

• Wendi Tejada, English as a Second Language teacher, Apollo Elementary School

• Vicki Vaughan, Mathematics teacher, Cooper Middle School

The five finalists, along with teachers of the year from every school, will be honored at the district’s annual Teacher of the Year reception beginning at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, at NEWCHURCH, 9201 N. Rockwell. During that same program, one of the five finalists will be announced as the district’s teacher of the year.

Each year, every Putnam City school honors one of its teachers as the school’s teacher of the year. These teachers are then entered into the district’s Teacher of the Year program. The five finalists for district teacher of the year are determined by a committee that includes district educators and a school board member.

Next week, the five finalists will be interviewed by a panel of business and community leaders and district parents and educators, who will make a recommendation for district teacher of the year.

The district’s teacher of the year will become a nominee for Oklahoma teacher of the year.

The Feb. 22 reception, which is open to the public, is sponsored by the Putnam City Public Schools Foundation.
